Plywood for boat constuction is a touchy subject. A good process for glassing it is to soft pad with 80 grit, coat wood with resin and allow to cure then scuff sand and do glass. This step allows the wood to soak up resin and create a better bond surface to glass to and prevent against delamination.
Re: Replacing plywood on boat floor Peanut butter is resin mixed with wood flour to the consistancy of pb i.e. it stays on the mixing stick . If the gap is larger than 1/4 inch or the hull slopes away too quickly, you may need to glue 1x1 inch peices of wood under the gap to hold the glue and the new floor.
It's very easy to put a new floor in most aluminum boats, so the down side of a low cost job not holding up long enough and needing to be done again isn't as critical as on a fiber glass boat. Cheap exterior plywood and some kind of deck or porch paint for wood will hold up for several years and just use some sand as a non skid finish.

I need to replace a large section of the deck in a glass boat. The deck is currently 3/4" plywood covered in fiberglass and then gel coat. It is a self-bailing deck. I'm wondering if anyone has done this and can recommend the type of supplies needed.
